My name is Autumn White, and this portfolio presents the GIS skills I have developed throughout the semester in GIS Urban Applications: The Urban Environment. This collection of work reflects my ability to manage a GIS project from start to finish—including defining spatial problems, acquiring and organizing data, performing spatial analysis, and producing high-quality cartographic outputs.
Over the course of the semester, I gained experience with many core GIS processes such as geocoding, digitizing, data management, spatial querying, map classification, and the use of tools like buffers and clipping. I also developed an understanding of how to approach GIS projects methodically: beginning with a clear problem statement, identifying appropriate data, applying geoprocessing tools, and using analysis results to support decision-making.
This portfolio is organized into four sections based on the GIS workflow:
- Needs Assessment / Project Definition
- Data Acquisition
- Data Management and Geoprocessing
- Data / Spatial Analysis
Each section includes sample maps I created during the semester, along with short explanations of the methods used and the goals of each project. Together, these products demonstrate not just my technical skills, but also my ability to think critically about spatial data and how it can be used to answer real-world questions.
